A Guide to Entertainment For Your Indian Wedding in Italy

A Guide to Entertainment For Your Indian Wedding in Italy

The world witnessed its first ever Indian wedding on a cruise ship earlier this month with the recent marriage of Adel Sajan and Sana Khan that saw over 1,000 guests board the Costa Fascinosa for a four-day cruise from Barcelona to Savona. This stunningly extravagant Pakistani-Indian wedding has definitely given many couples – and wedding planners – some serious wedding goals.

An Indian wedding abroad in Europe is a dream for many couples and so we’ve put together our Hindu wedding guide to Italy. Whether opting for the tranquillity of the Italian lakes, rural feel of the Italian countryside of Umbria or Basilicata, or one of the country’s enchanting cities like Rome or Milan as a setting, there is no denying that Italy is a beautiful location for an Indian wedding abroad. Italy also has some brilliantly exciting entertainment that would perfectly fit the bill of a big Indian wedding!

Also an area of the world looked after by our very own Giovanni Piras, who knows a thing or two about luxury weddings in Italy, we can ensure that your big Indian wedding in Italy will be utterly opulent.

An Indian wedding abroad

Of course Indian weddings are not just a one-day affair, comprising the Sangeet, Mehendi and Barraat, the celebrations continue over three days. Typically vibrant, energetic and full of brilliant colours, many different types of entertainment are planned across each day to create an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation leading up to and after the main event. After all this is a once in a lifetime occasion!

Choosing a theme – or several – and entertainment for guests to enjoy is paramount. We’ve worked on countless Indian weddings in luxury destinations around the world, as well as Italy, and have a wealth of ideas for your Indian wedding! We’re able to source entertainment options that are local to your chosen venue, or further afield if you have something really specific in mind that just doesn’t exist in the exact locale in which you’re to wed.

If you’ve yet to decide on a venue we can help with that too, we’ve previously compiled our top 10 luxury venues across the country and well as a guide to the most beautiful wedding venues in Tuscany. Many of which will be able to cater to the large guest list typical of an Indian wedding!

Music and dance

Vibrant, colourful and ostentatious the celebrations require plenty of dancing, live music and frivolity from guests.

These Genoa-based dhol drummers are a fun traditional way to create an energetic atmosphere at the Sangeet as they play Bhangra, modern Indian pop and western pop crossovers. Able to perform alongside a band or DJ – they add a fantastic Indian flavour to any music set up meaning you can easily incorporate a fusion of traditional Indian and modern music into the celebrations. Not just drummers, this group of performers can also folk dance – including traditional Rajasthani and Punjabi forms. They will really take the celebratory atmosphere to the next level!

If you want an impressive Bollywood inspired performance then this Rome-based Bollywood dance group – founded by one of the most renowned choreographers in Bollywood – is perfect. Offering brightly coloured costumes with beautifully intricate detailing, this group of professional ethnic dancers brings the spirit of famous Hindi films to life, not to mention a range of Indian classical dancers if that’s more your style. Whatever you choose to have them perform, their elegantly dramatic performances will get everyone in the mood for a celebration.

To ensure the festivity continues well into the night DJ Lorenzo, based in Florence, is one of the best in the business. With a repertoire that spans over 40,000 songs he can play a seamless mix of western, Bhangra and Bollywood remixes

Having a different themed performance every night will make it feel like a new celebration every day – whether you hire performers that can switch it up every evening or book different acts for each. Of course the acts we’ve mentioned are just a very small selection of our roster – so even if you’re thinking of a 12 piece party band, energetic roaming musicians, themed dancers, or something else entirely get in touch! You can check out our pick of Italian wedding bands here.

For something a little bit different consider this Rome-based food sculptor who is renowned for his ability to create intricate and delicate sculptures from fruit and vegetables – these make for beautiful table decorations. Able to create elaborate patterns, flowers and birds using brightly coloured fruits and vegetables he can create stunning Bollywood themed sculptors that will really impress – larger pieces can be made ahead of time and finished off live at the wedding!

To add a truly romantic touch to the Sangeet or the wedding after-party, this Florence-based sand artist can create a custom-made sand story for the happy couple. This elaborate performance is incredibly moving when set to an enchanting soundtrack.

Depending on the location of your venue, a flying lantern display could be a magical end to the three days of celebration, creating a beautiful light show in the skies above.

Electric Violin and Sax Duo

LED performances and fire performances always look stunning at the evening party. Whether opting for water drummers or musicians with LED instruments these kinds of LED performances make a huge impact in both the way they look and the way they sound. Unusual LED acts like this Lunar Butterfly are sure to provide an unforgettable focal point and mesmerise wedding guests. In terms of fire performances nothing beats the excitement generated by a slickly choreographed fire dance, with flaming batons and fire breathing.

Indian Wedding Themes

When choosing a theme for your big Indian wedding in Italy, whether you stick to traditional Bollywood like the recent Adel-Sana wedding that took inspiration from Bollywood film ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ with each night themed around a song from the movie, or opt for a theme that fuses European and Indian influences, there is plenty of room for imagination.

Depending on your chosen venue and location, certain themes may lend themselves more than others. Themes to consider are: ‘Indian Garden’ – think exotic florals, deep greens and twinkling lanterns, ‘Vintage Bollywood’ – inspired by Mughal-e-Azam and Pakeezah, ‘The Rajasthani’ – bring to life the eclectic patterns and colours and vibrant sights and sounds of the bazaar in Rajasthan.
